藤本壮介は、著書『建築が生まれるとき』の中で、20世紀の近代建築を代表する建築家、ミース・ファン・デル・ローエの作品を五線譜に喩えて論じています。藤本によれば、ミースは「何も書いていない五線自体を音楽として成立させた」存在であり、それに対して自身が目指す建築は、各音に固有の時間が流れ、音から音へと時間が受け継がれていく「五線のない楽譜」であると述べています。
本プログラム「ふるまいのデザイン」では、五線譜とは異なるアプローチで音楽を記述する図形楽譜に焦点を当てます。図形楽譜とは、音符や休符の代わりに、図形や記号、抽象的な線や文字などを用いて音楽的なアイデアをより視覚的に表現するものです。五線譜が音や時間の記述であるのに対し、演奏者の解釈に委ねられる部分が大きい図形楽譜は、演奏者の「ふるまい」への記述という側面を持っています。
今回は、日本における図形楽譜のパイオニアであった一柳慧の《弦楽器のためのスタンザ》と、琵琶と尺八という日本の伝統楽器を取り入れ、西洋的記譜法からの解放を試みた武満徹の《ノヴェンバー・ステップス》より第十段を紹介します。即興性と不確定性を帯び、「構造」という概念を超えていく音楽を、「藤本壮介の建築：原初・未来・森」とともにお楽しみください。

The Architecture of Sou Fujimoto Related Program

In Sou Fujimoto's book, When Architecture Is Born, he discusses the work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a leading 20th-century modern architect, by comparing it to musical staff notation. According to Fujimoto, Mies “made the blank staff itself musical.” In contrast, Fujimoto states that his own architecture is a “musical score without a staff,” in which each note has its own unique timing and time flows from one note to the next.
This program "Designing Behavior" focuses on graphic notation, an alternative approach to describing music. Graphic notation is a more visual expression of musical ideas, using shapes, symbols, abstract lines, and letters instead of notes and rests. While traditional staff notation describes sound and time, graphic notation, which leaves a large portion of it to the performer's interpretation, describes the performer's "behavior."
For this event, we will be introducing Stanzas for String Instruments by Ichiyanagi Toshi, a pioneer of graphic notation in Japan, and The 10-Dan for November Steps by Takemitsu Toru, who attempted to liberate himself from Western musical notation by incorporating traditional Japanese instruments, the biwa and the shakuhachi.
