少子高齢化問題が年々深刻化する中、東京そして日本はどのような未来を築いていくべきなのか？持続可能な社会のあり方を模索するうえで、地方創生や、東京と地方都市の共存共栄に注目が高まっている。英国においても、経済的・文化的発展を目指し、ロンドンとその周辺都市、そしてマンチェスターやリヴァプール、バーミンガムなど地方中核都市との関係が議論され、地域ごとの広域連携もすすめられている。本セミナーでは、英国と日本からそれぞれ有識者を迎え、ロンドンと地方都市の現状について学ぶほか、日本の「地域づくり」にも触れながら、大都市と地方都市が担うべき役割と築くべき関係について考える。

 
■登壇者

センター・フォー・ロンドン(Centre for London) リサーチディレクター。

グレーター・ロンドン・オーソリティ(GLA, 大ロンドン市)にてリヴィングストン元市長のもと、渉外担当責任者や建築・都市部 部長を歴任後、ロンドンオリンピック・レガシー開発公社(LLDC)でオリンピックパーク建設と近隣エリアの再生に携わる。2014年よりロンドンを拠点とするシンクタンクCentre for Londonのリサーチディレクターとして、同市が抱える課題の調査研究を牽引。オクスフォード大学、ロンドン大学出身。近著は、建築家リチャード ロジャースとの共著『A Place for All People』(2017年、Canongate)。

東京大学大学院　新領域創成科学研究科　助教

国際教養大学アジア地域研究機構連携研究員、一般社団法人アキタエイジラボ・研究ユニット・リーダー、アフリカの持続可能な開発のための教育プログラム共同コーディネーター・国連大学客員研究員。専門は農山村地域における地域づくり。博士（サステイナビリティ学）。2016年より現職。持続可能な社会の発展に貢献することを目的とする学際研究であるサステイナビリティ学分野で博士号を有する数少ない研究者。研究・教育・実践を同時展開しながら社会デザインを喚起していく手法に取り組んでいる。

Facing the problems of a declining birthrate and an aging population, what kind of future should Tokyo as well as Japan shape? In pursuit of a bright future, there has been greater attention to regional revitalization and ties between the capital and regional cities. Likewise in the U.K., increasing attention has been drawn to the relationship between London and peripheral cities, as well as regional core cities such as Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham. Hosting Mr Richard Brown, the research director of Centre for London and the former manager of the Architecture and Urbanism Unit at the Greater London Authority (GLA), and Mr Shogo Kudo, Assistant Professor at the Graduate Program in Sustainability Science-Global Leadership Initiative, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo, this seminar will explore the current status of London and regional cities in the U.K. and consider the roles and the relationship to be built by the capital and regional cities in Japan.

 

■Speakers

Richard Brown is Research Director at Centre for London, the independent think tank for London, working for a fair and prosperous global city. Previously, Richard worked for London’s mayoral government, most recently as Strategy Director at London Legacy Development Corporation, the agency established to manage legacy conversion of London’s Olympic and Paralympic venues. He also led the Mayor’s bid team, and helped set up the Olympic Delivery Authority, which built the Olympic Park and venues. Before that, Richard worked in the Mayor’s private office, and for Lord Rogers, the Mayor’s advisor on architecture and urbanism. More recently he collaborated with Rogers in writing A Place for All People (London, Canongate, 2017). He has degrees from the universities of London and Oxford.
