「街路が変われば、世界が変わる」
こう唱えて、ニューヨーク市の街路ひいては街そのものに変革をもたらしたのがジャネット サディック=カーンだ。ブルームバーグ市政でニューヨーク市交通局(NYCDOT)の局長を務めた同氏は、在任期間にブロードウェイの歩行者専用化、タイムズスクエアの広場化、シティバイクの導入など、様々な改革を成し遂げてきた。こうして長らく自動車に占拠されていた街路は再び人々の元に返され、以来ニューヨークの街はより一層活力に満ちている。
昨今、日本においても街路の改善や活用について活発な議論が交わされている。本イベントでは、街路および都市の活性化に精通した同氏を迎え、ニューヨークをはじめ世界各国の事例を織り交ぜながら、街路における変革手法について考える。サディック=カーン氏による講演とインタラクティブな対談を通じ、東京、そして日本における街路の未来を探っていく。

ジャネット　サディク＝カーン
ニューヨーク市交通局 元局長。2007年から2013年にかけ、ブルームバーグ市長のもと、街路変革を率いた。現在は、ブルームバーグ アソシエイツ代表として世界各地でコンサルティングに携わるほか、NACTO(米都市交通担当協議会)議長を務める。

 “If you can change the street, you can change the world”
Under this phrase, Janette Sadik-Khan—the former Commissioner of NYCDOT (Department of Transportation) during the Bloomberg administration—managed to unleash the transformative power of the streets in NYC, leading various initiatives such as "closing Broadway to cars in Times Square" and the introduction of the "Citi Bike". Through these changes, the city’s streets, which were long dominated by cars, were brought back to the people, creating a strong vitality for the city.
Nowadays in Japan, discussions to improve and utilize the streets have become a hot topic. For this event, we will study the transformative methods of the streets by inviting the specialist Sadik-Khan as a guest speaker. Through her talk and interactive discussions with the audience, we will discover the future of Tokyo and Japan’s streets.

Janette Sadik-Khan 
Former commissioner of New York City Department of Transportation. From 2007–2013, under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, she has lead the revitalizations of the city's streets.
She currently adivices cities all over the world as a principal at Bloomberg Associates, and also is Chair at NACTO (National Association of Transportation Officials)
